Date: January 27 & 28, 2024
Time: 3 hours both Saturday and Sunday morning via Zoom

The fun part will be that for this workshop stitchers have the opportunity to purchase the kit/pattern/class or pattern/class only. Lorene has provided a supply sheet so that anyone wanting to do a colour scheme different from the model above may do so. You will also need 15” x 15” stretcher bars.

Class Cost:

• $68 for Shockwave pattern and class (supplying your own threads/canvas)
• $180 for Shockwave pattern, kit & class

The 2023-2024 President's Challenge was to create a Mandala.  Diane's winning contemporary design used gold threads on black Aida. Her design incorporated goldwork, surface embroidery, applique, stumpwork, blackwork and beading.   She amalgamated Sarah Homfray's daisy motif (http://www.sarahhomfray.com), part of an outside floral band by Dee Southall (xxInfinityStitchesxx 2001), and some blackwork patterns from Clare Bradshaw (The Steady Thread, 2019).  The overall design and layout and choice of threads were her own. Congratulations Diane!

Since the pandemic, our Guild has continued to grow in size and many of our new members are keen to expand their embroidery skills. For the 2024-2025 Programme year, OVGS has developed a schedule of classes which focuses on introductory techniques for thread painting, Brazilian embroidery, blackwork and goldwork. These projects are also challenging enough that we believe they will be of interest to all! Classes take place during monthly in-person meetings, third Wednesday of the month.

We welcome our new Programme Chair, Kimberley Dacres, and thank our outgoing Programme Chair, Gosia Niedbala, for all her hard work over the past years putting together an excellent programme of courses.

"My Way" by Carolyn Mitchell

Date: September 28th, 2024 to November 9th, 2024 (Saturdays for 6 weeks, excluding the Thanksgiving weekend)

Time: 2 hours per week via Zoom.  (All classes will be virtual.)

 "The focus of this course is to offer students an opportunity to alter the appearance of an original design.  Suggested options are provided in many sections. Choices include changing stitches and/or colours, reversing colour value directions and changing fibres."  For more information about the creative possibilites for this project, please see the images below and Carolyn Mitchell's website.

Stitches that will be taught:  a large Rococo Stitch, Waffle, Walneto, Crescent Stitch, Spider Stitch Variation, Slanted Florentine as well as Flat Stitch, Basketweave, Oblong Cross Stitch, Rice Stitch, Smyrna Stitch, Ray Stitch and many more!

There will be prework for this class!!

Class Cost:

• $59 for pattern and class (supplying your own threads/canvas)
• The stitcher is responsible for collecting supplies. This is a piece that is flexible so it would be a great stash buster. If you have concerns with getting supplies (threads, canvas), the OVGS Workshop Chair will be happy to assist you.
• Supplies such as stretcher bars, embroidery scissors, laying tool are required.
