Attention All Members

OVGS June Meeting, Wednesday the 15th

A reminder to OVGS members that our final meeting of the 2010-2011 Guild year will be held on Wednesday, June 15th at Cityview United Church, at 7 p.m.

The June edition of Needlenotes is now available for download.

This meeting will have a lot of activities, so plan to be early (doors will open at 6:45). On the agenda

1. Annual General Meeting and election of OVGS executive for 2011-2012: Remember that nominations can be made from the floor.

2. Wrap-up Show and Tell: Bring anything you have been working on through the year - We'd love to see it, whatever its state of completion.

3. Potluck Supper: Appetizers to desserts and everything in between. It would help if you brought your own mug or glass, a plate and cutlery. Tea and coffee will be provided.

4. A very special speaker: Carolyn Mitchell, whom many of us know as a talented teacher and designer, is joining us to make a presentation on her experiences of designing for embroidery. "Embroidery Isn't Pillowcases Anymore" promises to be both humourous and uplifting. Carolyn has also agreed to bring some of her designs and kits with her for members to purchase, so if you would like a tangible souvenir of her visit - and an enjoyable project to stitch this summer - bring money!

5. Draws: In addition to our regular monthly draw, the Name-Tag Draw will be held. The prize is a gift certificate generously donated by Carole Van Die of Books for You.

This will be the last time we are all together before the summer break, so come for a relaxing and entertaining evening.

ON THE WEB – A Bold New Look!

If you are reading this online you will have noticed our site has a totally fresh new look and additional content. The new site is designed to provide more resources for our members as well resonating with younger members, those who actually know what Facebook and Twitter are and use them! The goal was to give members a reason to go to the site more often and provide a way of communicating and sharing information or pictures amongst us.

There are new pages which describe and provide pictures of future and past Workshops, Community Outreach activities, such as the Kissing Pillows and additional resources. Read the full article here.

What's New at the OVGS

New Start Time
Over the past few months a number of members have mentioned the difficulties in cramming in all the activities on meeting night. Between trying to chat with fellow members, exchange library books, register for programs and workshops, participate in programme and hear the latest news from the executive, something was getting short shrift. To try and address these concerns we are trying out a new meeting format and start time.  We believe it will help all of us get even more out of our meetings, and even give our librarian, Pam Keetch and membership chair, Leslie Crepin a chance to participate in programme.

Starting with our September 15th meeting, we will be trying out a new time schedule below.

6:45
The doors will open. Members are welcome to join in setting up.

7:00
to 7:45

Social time / Library   This longer period gives members a chance to visit the library, sign up for programs, or just circulate and socialize.
7:45
The library will close for the evening and a brief business meeting will be held.
8:00
Immediately upon conclusion of the business meeting, approximately 15 minutes, the programme portion of the meeting will commence.
. As the Guild has the premises until 10:00 pm, members are free to stay till then if they choose.
